The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) is a resource every pet parent should know about. You can call their pet poison control hotline at 888-426-4435 any hour of the day or night, and any day of the year including weekends and holidays
Triage
Listed below are common emergency ailments that should be seen by a veterinarian.
- Straining or unable to urinate (especially male cats)
- Vomiting/diarrhea lasting for more than 24 hours
- Trauma (hit by car, multiple injuries)
- Trouble breathing, choking or continuous coughing
- Swollen, bleeding or trauma to the eyes
- Swelling in the stomach/Bloat
- Ingesting toxins including but not limited to Poison (Rat bait or chemical), plants, legal/illegal drugs.
- Seizures that continue in clusters where the pet does not come return to normalcy.
- Swollen limbs
- Heat Stroke
- Pale or Blue Gums
- Trouble during active labor
- Instability to stand or unable use legs
